No Need to Buy New If You Can Fix It.

4 September 2012

Good news: that pesky broken toaster could be fixed. This fall, Hennepin County is holding Fix-It Clinics throughout the community.  Fix- it Clinics aim to reduce the amount of items thrown in the trash by pairing up residents who need things fixed with volunteers with repair skills to help fix the item, teach valuable troubleshooting and basic repair skills, and foster community relationships.

When we fix things and avoid buying new items, we reduce the amount of stuff in the trash and save money. Also, it is rewarding to finally fix that dang dvd player that keeps breaking!

To give you an idea of what to bring, here are some items that have been fixed at past clinics:

  • Toaster
  • Umbrella
  • Electric hot water heater
  • Flashlight
  • DVD player
  • Sewing machine

Clinics this Fall:

September 15th, 1-5 Washburn Library in Minneapolis

October 7th, 12:30-4:30 Southdale Library

If you love to fix things- the clinics are still looking for volunteers to help out. Email Nancy Lo at or call 612-348-9195 for volunteering opportunities or more info.
