Reduce added heat this summer- Use CFLs

10 July 2012

Woofta, the heat just seems to never go away this summer. And with temperatures so high any amount of additional heat is unwelcome. A great way to cut down on added heat is to turn off all incandescent lights. Did you know that  incandescent  light bulbs waste 90% of their energy in heat- only 10% is used in light! After all, incandescent does mean  “to light with heat”.  With multiple lights, that wasted heat can add up and make your home even more unbearably hot.

If you would like to be able to have the lights on without having any added heat try installing a few compact florescent lights (CFLs). CFLs have virtually no heat waste which is why they are 75% more efficient compared to incandescent. Not only can you now read a book at night and not bake at the same time, but you will have long term financial savings as well. Energy Star certified bulbs can save about $26 dollars a year per bulb!
