More bikes = less deaths, less money and less pollution

3 November 2011

I saw a great article in the Star Tribune today about the benefits of biking. A recent study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin reinforces that if all of us make little changes that it can make a real and significant difference.

“If trips of 5 miles or less were conducted by bicycle during the 124 best weather days of the year, 11 major cities in the Midwest would prevent 1,100 deaths from lung diseases, obesity and heart disease and save $7 billion annually.”

So, the next time you need to run an errand- if it is within 5 miles, and especially if within 2- and the weather isn’t too bad, consider biking. It will make a difference.  Also, add it to your Energy Challenge actions list!
