More Cyclists Mean Less Crashes

7 February 2011

It’s good to hear that as more people hop on their bikes for transportation in the Twin Cities, the amount of car-bike accidents are going down. Some new numbers from the City of Minneapolis (the #1 bike city in the US) show a steady decrease in crash rates even as the number of commuting cyclists more than doubled!

“People are so used to seeing bicyclists — love them or hate — and they don’t want to hit them,” said Shaun Murphy, coordinator of the city’s nonmotorized transportation program.

Remember to keep an eye open for cyclists, even during the winter, and share the road!
