Environmental Education Tool Kit for Community Groups

15 December 2010

Looking for a new resource on community action around sustainability?  Hennepin County recently developed a free tool kit for community members to use to engage others in reducing waste, recycling, disposing properly of hazardous items, conserving energy and protecting water resources.

The tool kit (PDF) offers environmental education and activities that are appropriate for adults, teens and youth. Some of the activities include:

  • Reducing junk mail – build a junk mail tree
  • Promoting reuse –host an eco fashion show
  • Recycling more – play a recycling sorting game
  • Reducing toxicity – make non-toxic cleaner
  • Recycling electronics – take a techno trash quiz
  • Conserving energy – conduct a home energy audit
  • Eating local foods – host a local foods potluck
  • Protecting water quality- build a rain barrel

For more information about the toolkit and education resources available from the county, contact Ellie Jones at or 612-348-9352.  This project is a part of Hennepin County’s Community POWER networks project.
