FEDs Enforce EE Standards for the First Time in 35 Years

16 September 2010

If you’ve ever looked at a certain product and doubted that it was actually as energy efficient as it claimed to be, you’ll be happy to hear that the U.S. Department of Energy is finally taking action to help consumers by enforcing energy efficiency standards for products like showerheads, light bulbs and appliances – for the first time in 35 years!

“As a part of its mission to help consumers purchase energy efficient products that will save them money, the Department sets energy efficiency standards for a vast array of consumer and commercial products.  But when I arrived at DOE, I was stunned to discover that the Department had never systematically enforced DOE’s 35-year-old energy efficiency standards.”

As a result of this enforcement program, the DOE has removed 66 products from the market that violated energy efficiency standards.
