Google Maps: Bike There!

9 April 2010

FINALLY. We can now use Google Maps for biking directions! As a directionally-challenged person, I would get lost every day if it weren’t for the soothing guidance of Google Maps.  And now you can look up biking directions, along with mileage and time estimates!

Google Maps biking directions are still in beta testing, but the tool seems pretty developed in the Twin Cities.  Designated bike trails are shown in dark green, whereas streets with bike lanes are in a lighter green.

And of course, I wouldn’t be a responsible blogger if I didn’t end a post on biking with a little safety message: be aware, wear a helmet and obey traffic signals!

Happy biking season, everyone!
