New Category: “Youth Take Action”

12 February 2010

Thanks to the active students at Lake Country Junior High, a new category has been added to the Energy Challenge Action GuidesYouth Take Action! Included in this guide are all the actions that youth can do to save energy, be environmentally responsible and make a real difference.  Consider yourself a type of renter – even though you don’t directly pay the gas or electric bills, you can help your family save.

One smart move you can take is make a deal with your parents.  Tell them that you took the Minnesota Energy Challenge and you’ve learned some easy ways to cut down on the utility bills – and you want to keep the difference. Say last month your electricity bill was $110, but because you started unplugging your Wii and computer at night and installed a few compact fluorescent light bulbs and the next bill that comes is $10 cheaper.  Well, because you took action, shouldn’t you get to keep that?  If you can get everyone in your family to do something, you can start saving up for a fun family pizza night – or keep the money for a treat for yourself!
