Join the World in International Walk to School Day!

6 October 2009

This Wednesday, October 7, is International Walk to School Day.  Have your child join with students from all over the world, through walking, biking, rolling, or skating to school.

In the U.S., International Walk to School Day is expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.

Walking or bicycling is good for children in many ways: they not only get more exercise, but also will get to breathe better air with fewer cars on the road.  Even if you live too far away to walk the entire distance to school, there are already 19 events throughout the state of Minnesota, and many will have a volunteer stationed a few blocks away from school so students can walk together for the last few blocks.  Many events even include free bicycling gear or cool stickers for the students who participate.  To see the list of events and participating schools, you can visit http://www.walktoschool.org/who/seestate.cfm?st=MN
