Bike sharing is coming to the Twin Cities!

23 March 2009

It’s been proven across the world – particularly in Europe – that bike sharing is the bomb.  Specifically, bike sharing programs that utilize the latest in web 2.0 technology with self-service kiosks to provide easy low-cost access to two-wheeled transportation.  So it’s very exciting that a bike sharing program will be debuting in the Twin Cities in spring 2010! The program, run by new non-profit Nice Ride Minnesota will utilize $1.74 million of federal innovation project funding for the bikes and kiosks, will help reduce traffic congestion, parking demand, reduce greenhouse gas emissions AND help transform our city streets to become safer and more comfortable for cyclists and pedestrians.  Here here.  The program will roll out in downtown Minneapolis, the U of M campus and the Uptown neighborhood.  Can’t wait!
