Happy New Year!

1 January 2009

And what a year 2009 is shaping up to be.  Here at the Minnesota Energy Challenge, we believe that 2009 is going to be a banner year for energy efficiency and conservation.  There will be lots of opportunities for Minnesota residents to take advantage of energy efficiency to help reduce costs in new ways and we look forward to being there to help provide information, support, encouragement and new ideas!

And, as per the spirit of the holiday, we’re also thinking about our New Years Resolutions.  Now is the perfect time to resolve to take a new action you’ve never done before – maybe you’ve heard that driving the speed limit can help you save money (up to $200 a year!), but you’ve been reticent to try it.  Or maybe you know that washing clothes in cold water will help reduce costs (over $80 a year) but you don’t know if it’s going to get your clothes quite as clean.  Or maybe this is the year you start composting in your backyard!  Whatever the action, pick one and pledge to give it a try in 2009. If you need ideas, we have plenty on our website!

Personally, my energy efficiency pledge for 2009 is to be more energy smart with my traveling.  Although I love visting my family and friends scattered throughout the nation, flying is a really carbon intensive and stressful way to travel.  This year I look forward to taking more car trips and trying out trains and buses as alternatives to air travel.

What’s your Energy New Years Resolution?
