Nokia is Greenist-ish

25 November 2008

Thinking about buying new gadgets this holiday season? Greenpeace’s latest edition of their Guide to Greener Electronics is out, ranking electronics companies on a variety of criteria to determine their “climate leadership,” including cleaning up products by eliminating hazardous substances, taking back and recycling products responsibly once they have become obsolete and reducing the climate impact of their own operations and products.

So how do they measure up?  Nokia is currently rocking at first place with their comprehensive voluntary take-back program, with Sony Ericsson and Toshiba right behind.  Falling at the bottom of the list with truly pathetic scores are Lenovo, Microsoft and Nintendo.

All in all, however, despite rampant greenwashing, major companies like Dell, Microsoft, LG, Samsung and Apple are not supporting the required level of cuts in their own emissions that are needed to truly impact our changing global climate.
