I’m dreaming of a…Green Thanksgiving?

24 November 2008

I have to say, Thanksgiving is by far and away my favorite American holiday – really, anything centered around eating insane amounts of delicious food with friends and family sounds wonderful!  If you’re looking to have a low-impact Thanksgiving this year, here is a great guide from Treehugger with some practical tips.  And here are a few from the Energy Challenge on reducing the CO2 impact of your festivities:

  • Driving to a friend or relative’s house for the eatin’?  Carpool with others and remember to drive the speed limit!
  • Don’t scrape those dishes into the trash – try composting to recycle veggie waste and other composting-friendly materials into new soil.
  • I have some friends who have a Thanksgiving ritual of starting holiday decorations after dinner.  Get LED holiday lights to make your home bright AND save some money.
