Last call for entries to local green film contest

23 September 2008

Linden Hills Power & Light (LHP&L) a non-profit, community-based environmental organization, just sent out a reminder that there’s just a few weeks left before the October 8 deadline for submissions in their Green Carpet digital video Contest.

Amateur and professional videos are equally welcome and monetary prizes will be awarded in three categories.  Prizes include a grand prize of $500, three runner-up prizes of $300 and three honorable mention prizes of $150. In addition to winning monetary prizes, winning entries will be shown on TV and sponsoring websites as well as at a “Green Carpet” screening on Thursday October 23rd at 7pm.

Entries should focus on one of the following themes:

  1. Promoting the Minnesota Energy Challenge;
  2. Ways to combat climate change; and
  3. General environmental themes such as energy conservation, recycling, waste reduction,  anaerobic digestion, or recycling organic material.

So get creative: drama, comedy, trailer, spoof, documentary, live action, claymation, music videos, etc.  You can enter as many submissions as you’d like as long as they are between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.  Entries will be judged on accuracy of information and creativity rather than production values, so no worries about making something look “perfect.”  Instead, focus on your message!

Example:

Celebrity judges include Polar Explorer and educator Will Steger; WCCO anchors Amelia Santaniello and Frank Vascellaro and Southwest Journal Editor Sarah McKenzie.  For full rules, requirements and more information, visit lhpowerandlight.org!  And good luck!
