We’re Still Paying More Than Brits

Even though Brits are paying more than twice as much for gas as Americans ($8.52 per gallon versus our national average of $3.88), Americans still pay more for gas a year – $200 more per year, in fact. Why?  Well, the average car in the US has a gas efficiency of 22 miles per gallon, but the average car in the UK gets 38 miles per gallon.  Add the fact that American drivers drive almost twice as many miles a year as your average Brit and the numbers speak for themselves.
