Challenge mentioned in Sierra Club Report

1 July 2008

The Sierra Club just released a unique report on faith communities and environmental action in the United States, reporting that 67% of Americans care for the environment because it is God’s creation. Over 220 congregations have teams on the Minnesota Energy Challenge and use it to organize their communities around energy efficiency and conservation and creation care. The Sierra Club report, “Faith in Action: Communities of Faith Bring Hope for the Planet” describes creation care projects in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico – and in Minnesota, they focus on Catholic initiatives in the Twin Cities. They highlight St. Joan of Arc and mention their success as the #1 congregation on the Minnesota Energy Challenge!

Congrats to St. Joan of Arc for exemplary action and dedication to reducing the carbon footprint of your congregation! Currently the St. Joan’s team has over 447 households pledging to reduce their use by over 2.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide pollution a year – the equivalent of the emissions from 2,955 barrels of oil.
