Phantom load, or vampire energy, is a silent but costly blight on households in America.  Vampire energy is the energy drain that occurs when appliances and electronics – like cable boxes, computers, cell phone chargers, etc – are left plugged in when not in use.  According to this fascinating article at Salon.com, vampire energy is costing American consumers over $7 billion a year.
