Minnesota Third in Wind Production

12 December 2007

Xcel Energy announced yesterday that by the end of the 2007, Minnesota will be the third largest producer of wind energy in the nation! By the end of this year, Xcel is expecting to reach 1,000 megawatts of wind power capacity. That’s enough energy to power 270,000 homes. “It’s a very significant accomplishment for the company and also for the great state of Minnesota,” said Xcel Energy Chairman, President and CEO Dick Kelly. We think so too!

It’s important to keep in mind that while wind is a wonderful energy opportunity, the flip side to renewables is energy efficiency. If we are smarter with our energy use, we can further reduce our dependence on coal for energy and lessen our harmful impact on the environment. Start today by taking the Minnesota Energy Challenge and consider pledging to buy wind energy from your local utility.
