Best Buy offering Free E-Recycling Program

2 June 2008

Starting this week, Best Buy is testing a free e-waste recycling program in 117 stores across the country – and lucky us, Minneapolis is on the list! Regardless of where you purchased the item, you can now bring electronics such as tvs and monitors (up to 32″), computers, phones cameras and other electronics to Minneapolis Best Buy locations for free recycling (up to two units per day).

Why should you recycle your old e-waste instead of throwing it out? In short, because it’s a good thing to do. The longer story is that electronics contain valuable and recoverable materials that we can use again at a smaller cost than mining them all over again. Also, e-waste contains toxic materials (like mercury!) that can leak into the ground and water, so it’s better for all of us if they stay out of landfills. And, finally, recycling e-waste creates jobs and supports the growing green economy. Don’t throw that cell phone away – help the environment and stimulate our economy by recycling.

The best I have found is http://www.cellularchallenge.net . They clear your personal data (pictures, numbers, text messages) and you can print postage directly from their site and just drop it in the mail It’s easy and they accept our older phones as well and give them to a good cause and keep the material out of the landfill.
