83% of Americans taking some Green Action
21 April 2008
A recent Gallup poll found that 83% of Americans report that they have made changes in their shopping and living habits over the past five years in order to help protect the environment. Of those, only 28% report making “major” changes, while 55% report making “minor” changes.
So, what are people doing? The most popular action was recycling, followed by driving less, carpooling and consolidating trips (trip bundling). Only 2% of respondents reported making their homes more energy efficient.
If you are anxious about the economy like most Americans, you should think about your energy use. Energy efficiency and conservation are incredibly money smart tactics. You may spend a little more upfront to buy a compact fluorescent light bulbs or an energy efficient appliance, but the payback is quick and then you continue to save! The less energy you use, the more money you save. Take the Minnesota Energy Challenge and learn how to save hundreds of dollars on energy bills while preserving the environment at the same time.
